Torremolinos is southern Spain's answer to Benidorm, Torremolinos is a vast purpose-built resort situated 10 miles (16km) west of Malaga, on the road to Marbella on the Costa Del Sol. Holidaymakers looking for a cultural experience will be disappointed, as Torremolinos, particularly in high season, is noisy and fast-paced, 24 hours a day. With six miles (10km) of wide, sandy beaches, lots of watersports, masses of bars and restaurants and an exhausting nightlife, the resort attracts tourists of all ages from all over Europe.
Torremolinos is, quite simply, one big ball of fun. The biggest tourist resort on Spain's blinding Costa Del Sol, it's a big hit with British tourists – and it has been for decades. Quite simply, if you're out for a classic beach holiday, it's very hard to beat. Its main attribute is its seven-kilometre swathe of sand. And it's crammed with almost every entertainment you can think of. Fresh seafood lunches and cold beers at lively 'chiringuito' beach bars. Volleyball, pedaloes and paragliding for when you want a walk on the wilder side. And of course, the deep blue Med to cool off in every once in a while. When the shopping bug grabs you, the traffic-free Calle San Miguel, with its gift shops and boutiques, should do the trick. Or perhaps a mosey around the market that's in the old district, El Calvario, every Thursday. Then there are the countless restaurants, from fast food joints to English breakfast diners. And should you hanker after traditional Spanish fare, the pretty Carihuela area offers excellent seafood and tapas haunts. When evening falls, hold tight. Torremolinos' myriad nightclubs and bars spell long nights of partying. But if you want something quieter, no problem. There are still plenty of places here that are made for sitting under the stars sharing sangria with newly made friends.
